Yesterday was the annual Pinewood Derby. It was the first time I ever went and I was actually surprised at how much fun it was. Watching the cars race and the boys' reactions as they cheered each car on was absolutely priceless.
Upon an early arrival, we were told that one of the wheels on EJ's car wasn't touching the ground. One of the troop leaders attempted to fix it, but the wheel didn't want to cooperate. Finally, EJ put the car on the track and said it was touching and moving. Also, we knew the car needed weight added (.4 oz. to be exact). The only place to put the weight was on top of the car to ensure the bottom would be clear as the car came down the track. The back was already heavy and anymore weight back there would've made the front end of the car come off the track. It turned out that the weight that was added put the car at 4.9 oz. and just .1 oz shy of the maximum weight.
Although EJ's car didn't place overall, he still had a good time. Out of the four heats his car raced, it placed 1st twice. Unfortunately, the car wasn't as fast as the other cars. Hopefully next year his car can place. It'd be nice for him and me (I'm the competitive one!).
