STAYCATION: noun A vacation spent at home or nearby
Island life has taken a bit of an adjustment. The honeymoon phase lasts about 6-9 months and then you realize you are stuck in the middle of an ocean, far from family, and road trips don't exist. You see, while living in Maryland, I could pack up the kids and drive 5 hours north or 5 hours south to visit family just for a 3-day weekend. It seems I kinda got used to doing that so going from that to an island has been a difficult transition. Now that we are here, getting off the island is SO expensive, even if we want to travel to another island. To alleviate my need to "run the roads," as my husband says, we decided to have a staycation. This was our Christmas gift to the kids, but it was for all of us. Okay, mostly me. No, really, the kids knew exactly what this was when they opened their gift and they squealed in excitement. Little did we all realize how much fun we'd have.

From the awesome hotel room to the watersliders, lazy river, character appearances, free childcare, and delicious food, this is a place I hope we get to stay one more time before we head back to the mainland.
